AEPS is one of the most well-researched curriculum-based assessments for use with young children. More than 30 years of study have confirmed that AEPS not only meets or exceeds the technical properties that any tool you use should demonstrate (e.g., concurrent validity, test–retest reliability, internal consistency) but that it also is highly effective in the real-world situations in which it is designed to be used (as evidenced by studies of treatment validity, fidelity of assessment or implementation, and reliability of actual users).
Unlike the research behind most, if not all, other comparable instruments, almost all AEPS research has been peer-reviewed (a full list of citations is available in The Research). Historical and current research demonstrates that AEPS maintains its integrity and consistency over time. Users can trust that any purpose for which AEPS says it can be used has been addressed with the population in question (e.g., children without disabilities, children at risk of developmental delay, and children with a variety of disabilities including blindness, autism spectrum disorders, speech delays, and cerebral palsy).
